Yes. Edina's code includes decks and patios in building coverage, apart from a small first portion of an unenclosed deck or patio, and the patio also counts toward the 50 percent impervious surface limit. We calculate both before we finalize the size.
An uncovered, unenclosed patio needs at least 5 feet from an interior side lot line. Front and corner setbacks depend on the lot, so we confirm them during the site visit.
A slight grade can often be absorbed with careful grading and a step down from the house. For steeper yards, a low wall can create a level terrace, and our team handling retaining wall installation in Edina can plan it with the patio.
